Founded in 1962, Southgate District Civic Trust (SDCT) is a civic society concerned to conserve and enhance the best aspects of our district. For over 50 years SDCT has been actively campaigning to create a strong local presence.
We listen, advise, and support our members to be a voice and a champion for the local environment and try to protect, enhance and advance our local community.
Our main area of interest is loosely based on the old Southgate Municipal Borough, it includes: Southgate, Southgate Green, Cockfosters, New Southgate, Oakwood, Palmers Green, Winchmore Hill & Hadley Wood.
This is a living and growing area and Southgate District Civic Trust aims to secure its future, by promoting improvements and actively campaigning to protect it. We support those features of social, economic and physical change that enhance our local community life.
SDCT holds regular meetings to discuss relevant planning applications, including major local developments as well as meetings on local history, forthcoming publications, open meetings and not forgetting social events.
We have representatives on Enfield Council’s Conservation Advisory Group, the Green Belt Forum, Friends of the Parks, Ward Forums and other local groups. Southgate District Civic Trust is a member of Civic Voice the national charity for the civic movement in England and is represented on their Regional Forum.
The Trust is supported by donations and subscriptions, with all work done by volunteers.
